Name of band: Turrentine Middle School Trojan Band
Director: Mark Payne
Recent awards earned: These are hard-working kids who are involved in their school and community through the musical involvement provided by our band program. Each year, students are involved in all county band, all district band and concert band contests. The band performs numerous times throughout the year as a pep band for football games, marching band in the holiday parade, and of course, as a concert band here at school and in the surrounding area.
“I just wanted to take a moment to thank my students and parents for all of their efforts. This is my 30th  year of teaching and my second back at Turrentine after a nine-year absence working in other school districts (I taught band at Williams and Turrentine for 21 years previously). I have seen many schools in other systems and can say unequivocally that this middle school, its staff, teachers and administration, are the best in the business. Daily, I have the honor of working with great educators who are concerned about and involved in, the education of our kids no matter what time, effort, or energy it takes to reach and teach every student. My job is to teach band music, but more importantly it is to help every child in any way possible. The band is doing great this year and Turrentine Middle is going from good to great every day we open the doors,” Payne said.
