Burlington Youth Council in need of volunteers

Want to lend a helping hand? The Burlington Youth Council (BYC) is offering several opportunities this month to assist your local community.

Teens interested in participating should make plans to attend their meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Thataways Youth Center, 1334 Overbrook Road, Burlington.

There will be opportunities to sign up for fundraisers. Some of their events for this month require “volunteers to help serve concessions, clean, etc.” and they include:

Special Needs Dances from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday nights

BYC Youth Pool Tournament, Oct. 15

Make A Difference Day, Oct. 22

Celebrate Halloween and support worthy causes at the same time:

The Woods of Terror is holding its second annual ”Terror for Tatas” event from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. The event will raise money for the Moses Cone Health System Regional Cancer Center’s Finding Your New Normal program for breast cancer survivors. For more details, visit www.terrorfortatas.com.

The Original Hollywood Horror Show, Holly Hill Mall and the Elon University Pericleans Scholars Class of 2012 are teaming up for the first-ever Alamance County Zombie Walk, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29, International Road beind Holly HIll Mall & Business Center in Burlington. $3 per person and children under 12 get in free. Proceeds go to the Burlington Housing Authority and Loaves & Fishes Christian Food Ministries.
