In this digital age we live in, websites are a prevalent part of our lives. From platforms about politics to news stories, social networking, video streaming and lifestyle blogs, the Internet is home to an array of web pages, and there isn’t a day that we go without visiting a website under at least one of the above categories. Through the last couple of years, there has been one website that has only been escalating in popularity amongst us that combines all of the features mentioned above and more — Buzzfeed.
Buzzfeed was founded in 2006 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate Jonah Peretti as an experimental lab focusing on tracking and creating viral, shareable content. The website has expanded to a platform being visited by more than 200 million people monthly and is an advertising jungle. So what exactly is its secret?
Buzzfeed has mastered the perfect ratio of entertaining, interactive content to political and international news. Its personality quizzes (of which popular ones are “Which Disney Princess Are You?” and “What Career Should You Have?”) and viral videos, which range from hilarious, relatable scenarios to trivia, are some of the website’s main attractions. In fact, the videos have generated more than 1.2 billion views. Its Lifestyle and Travel sections also are exceedingly popular, inspiring visitors of the website and other members of the Buzzfeed community to try new things out and experience the magic of places they’ve never seen before,
The plethora of content and the variety of it all are just contributing factors towards the success of Buzzfeed. It’s a website that’s attractive to advertisers and common viewers alike and should grow and expand even more in the upcoming years.
