Clowns, certain horror films scare Teens & Twenties writers

Times-News correspondents

With Halloween coming up on Friday, what really scares you? This question was posed to the Teens & Twenties writers and their responses are below:

There are many things that I am scared of, but I’d say some of the biggest things are spiders, squirrels and ghost movies.

Michaela King, senior at Burlington Christian Academy

There are a lot of things that I’m kind of scared of, but one of the main things are clowns. I’ve seen one too many movies, I guess, but they creep me out. I’m also not a huge fan of spiders. Just keep them away from me.

Katie Farrell, senior at Graham High School

What scares me the most are spiders. I have arachnophobia and cannot stand to see them. Their beady little eyes just seem to stare at you with hatred as they crawl on their eight legs toward you. Not to mention they lay tons of baby spiders at a time and if you step on them they scatter everywhere.

Kaitlin Gillespie, freshman at Western Carolina University

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been terrified of “Jeepers Creepers.” I can handle all kinds of scary movies, but “Jeepers” just gives me nightmares every single time.

Allison Tate, freshman at Alamance Community College

The thing that scares me the most would be natural disasters. They’re uncontrollable and unpredictable, so that frightens me more than anything else.

 Sarah Jones, junior home-schooler

My biggest fear is something bad happening to my friends and family and I cannot do anything to prevent it.

Emily Fogleman, a student at Southern Alamance High School

It may seem silly, but clowns! Whether it be Ronald McDonald or the clown from the movie It; I do not associate with any. Don’t ask me why because quite frankly I do not know myself. Just a fear I developed over the years I guess.

Macie Little, junior at Clover Garden Charter School

Something that scares me is clowns. I don’t like clowns because they have creepy faces and do weird things. I have not liked clowns my whole life, even when I was a baby. That is what scares me the most.

Abby Chester, seventh-grader at Western Alamance Middle School

I am often frightened by the prospect of the destruction of humanity. It is a dark, frightful, and scary prospect that is frightfully possible. With one tiny disturbance in the universe, the world as we know it could end. Works such as The Maze Runner, Divergent, and World War Z are some of the books that bring on this feeling within me. It is a truly dark prospect.

Jos Boswell, freshman at Williams High School

The main thing that scares me is being out of control, like in one of the first scenes in the movie “Gravity,” when Ryan Stone can’t stop spinning. Another thing that scares me is outer space, although I don’t know why. I love “Star Wars” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but I can’t stand the thought of going up there myself.

 Chandler Holland, sophomore home-schooler

I’m scared of dead brides and Michael Myers! Eeeekkkkk, they are so spooky.

Samantha Gilland, junior at Alamance-Burlington Middle College

I fear the possibility of Marvel Comics never ever making another great film.

 Logan A. White, freshman home-schooler

What scares me? Well I’m not necessarily what someone would call scared of the dark, but I am afraid of what lies in the dark. And … maybe snakes and spiders.

Elizabeth Mullis, senior at Clover Garden School

The thing I’m most afraid of is clowns. I mean like the really creepy ones with the long claws and the creepy smiles and the very, VERY creepy make up.

Catherine Wiggins, eighth-grader at Burlington Christian Academy

I get scared by random things, such as some of the covers for horror movies in Redbox.

 Joshua Fitzgerald, home-schooler

Near Halloween, everywhere you go you see people in costumes covered in blood, missing body parts, etc. This scares me because of how realistic some of these look, and any other time of year I would think these people are actually hurt. Although I’m not scared of bugs, there are way too many of them around Halloween — ew!

 Briona Kiser, freshman at UNC-Charlotte

I don’t know what it is about them, but lady bugs scare me to death. They are painted beetles and they liked to congregate on the ceilings of my grandparents’ house during the winter, so sometimes I would walk into a room and there would be hundreds of the bugs all huddled together on the ceiling. I was also afraid they were going to attack and still am to this day.

Lea Gilbert, junior at Western Alamance High School
