Elon’s Alpha Xi Delta to celebrate Autism Awareness week

 ELON — The Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at Elon University will celebrate Autism Awareness by holding a number of different events around campus with Xi Week from now through Oct. 8, 2011, to raise awareness and funds across campus and in the local community.

Kickoff begins Oct. 3, with a profit-share at Red Robin, Alamance Crossing and will end Oct. 8 with a Walk Now for Autism Speaks inConcord.

Other events include Xi Candyland on Oct. 4, an on-campus all-you-can-eat candy bar, an all-day car wash in the Kohl’s,Alamance Crossing, parking lot on Oct. 5. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Alpha Xi Delta walk team that raises money for Walk Now for Autism.

“Last year, we were able to raise $10,000 for our philanthropy, Autism Speaks, and we are excited to continue raising money for such a deserving cause,” saidBethanyEly, Elon’s Alpha Xi Delta Chapter president. “We walk because every sister in our chapter has a personal connection to autism, whether it’s a direct family member or friend of a friend.
