With about 30 years’ combined experience among the three directors at Western Alamance High School alone, it’s no surprise that there is an abundance of the right stuff in the Theatre Arts department.

Western’s spring musical will continue its legacy of great productions, with “Footloose, the Musical.”

Sitting in the front row, making one of several notes for this article at the last “marathon Saturday,” I was shocked by a particular voice so much that I actually stopped what I was doing to see who it was.

It was a sophomore that has been under the instruction of Connie Rea for almost six years, named Blake Brown, who is playing the part of Rusty.

Brown is just one of the students involved in one of the largest casts that the school has seen in several years. Of the 60-plus people involved in this musical, most are of superior talent. The main cast, as well as the supporting cast, really makes this a fun, dance- and music-filled performance.

This production follows more closely to the original motion picture than the 2011 remake. Rea and the other directors have taken aspects from all of the stage performances, including the Broadway script and the original movie. They have put their heart, soul and pieces of their own personality into this year’s performance.

You can come out to Western Alamance High School, 1731 N.C. 87 North, Elon, to see this family friendly high school musical at 7 p.m. tonight and Friday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 per person.

If you come to opening night, you can bring in a canned food item to donate to Loaves & Fishes Christian Food Ministries, and get a discounted admission of $9.
