Africa Rural Connect, an online project of the National Peace Corps Association, has launched a new contest to promote youth-oriented agricultural initiatives. Contestants can enter to win the Young Farmers Idea Contest between April 15 and May 31, 2012, by posting their idea to the Africa Rural Connect website. The top 10 ideas from endorsements will go to the “leaderboard” and will be sent to a panel of judges for evaluation. Ideas can include improving youth agricultural education and training to increasing youth access to finances and land and supporting youth farming organizations.
Qualified contestants are eligible to win first, second and third place. The first place winner will receive $5,000 and if the winner is based in the United States, he or she will go on to win roundtrip airfare and lodgin to the National Peace Corps Association’s annual gathering in Minneapolis June 29 through July 1. The second place winner will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and the third place winner receives a cash prize of $1,000.
