   • N.C. State Fair: Opening day is 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Thursday. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12-14, 16; 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Oct. 15; 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Oct. 17-18; 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Oct. 19; and 8 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Oct. 20-21, N.C. State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh. Advance tickets are $8 for adults 13 to 64 years old and $3 for children 6 to 12 years old. Tickets at the gate are $10 for adults 13 to 64 years old; $5 for children ages 6 to 12; $6 for those with military ID; Free for children 5 and younger, seniors 65 years old and up, and adult groups of 40 or more and children groups of 40 or more. • Studio 1 presents “Once on this Island”: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sara McMillan Brown Theatre at Studio 1, Holly Hill Mall and Business Center, 309 Huffman Mill Rd., Burlington.
