Things to Do (week of Sept. 30, 2019)


• Andrea L. Pino-Silva presents “Taking the Reins of Our Movement — Unapologetic Survivor Storytelling and the Power of Everyday Activism”: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. Free.
• Jason Michael Carroll: Saturday, outside of Dave’s Furniture Decorators Warehouse, Holly Hill Mall and Business Center, 309 Huffman Mill Rd., Burlington. Concert begins at 5 p.m. with opening act Maggie Baugh. Maverick Radio NC is presenting the free concert.
• Cooks For Books: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Elon Community Church, 271 N. Williamson Ave., Elon. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner featuring food prepared by Times-News’ Cooks of the Month. Event begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit Reach Out and Read, which provides new books to children birth through 5 years old at well-child check-ups and encourages parents to read to their children daily. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Elon Community Church, 271 N. Williamson Ave., Elon, (336-584-0391) and Times-News, 707 S. Main St., Burlington, (336-227-0131). Tickets also available at the door, but seating is limited.
