   Whose side are you on?
That seems to be the mantra of this year’s superhero action flicks, and the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse” is no exception. With a stellar lineup of heroes and villains, it’s crucial to know who’s who before the film hits theaters. Here’s a at-a-glance look at the most prominent good guys:
Professor X: Ringleader of the X-Men, Charles Xavier is one of the world’s most powerful telepaths. In addition to being a mind reader, he’s a paraplegic, easily recognizable by his iconic wheelchair.
Mystique and Nightcrawler: Raven Darkholme is a butt-kicking shapeshifter, while Kurt Wagner is a teleporter with a mysterious past. Both are cobalt-skinned wildcards: Mystique has played both villain and hero in the past, and Nightcrawler has possible villainous parentage. Starting out as independent allies, expect both to join forces with the X-Men.
Quicksilver: A fan favorite, this silver speedster is the ultimate teen hero. With a power portfolio consisting of nothing but super speed, everything seems slow to him, making both his actions and dialogue hilarious. In the comics, he’s the son of villain Magneto, but their relationship in the film is questionable.
Jean Grey: Comic book fans will be familiar with the redheaded heroine. Both telepathic and telekinetic, her powers rival even Professor’s mental strength. Despite her unassuming exterior, she has a dark side … will Apocalypse unleash it?
Cyclops and Havok: These brothers both project beams of energy, albeit in very different ways. Cyclops is known for his iconic ruby-tinted laser blasts, which shoot from his eyes. Havok, on the other hand, almost seems to hula-hoop energy around his torso before flinging it like a frisbee. Expect Cyclops to play a major role in the action; Havok may be reduced to the background.
Beast: True to his name, Dr. Hank McCoy is a blue, ferocious beast. Underneath the animalistic appearance, however, he’s really a gentle giant. One of the Professor’s most loyal friends, Beast is both genetic genius and fierce fighter.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” hits theaters Memorial Day weekend. Look for these heroes and see how they fare against the impending doom of the dark side.
